Later this morning, I will be signing the final paperwork for my first ever house, and I need to extend an incredible amount of gratitude to, and basically sing the praises for, my agent, Isaac Rivelle. Because he’s that good that I need everyone to know about him. Full disclosure, Isaac and I have been friends for a pretty long time, so this of course should be taken with a grain of salt. But what it also means is I have a better insight into how he operates. I VERY EASILY could have pulled the “I don’t want to mix business and friends” card and gone with someone else, but through our friendship, I’ve been able to see that he’s the exact kind of person I want to have helping me with a major endeavor like buying a home.

Isaac tailors his approach to his clients, and he works by informing and guiding. He tunes into what you respond to, and adapts his approach based on what he sees. We found the place I’m hoping to call home because I made on off-handed comment about something I was surprised to find I might be willing to compromise on. On his own, he put in extra work to find homes we might have missed based on that comment that I hadn’t even fully acknowledged to myself. Literally the day after he did that, we looked at a place, and here I am a day away from closing on it.

And that’s the kind of thing that makes him such a valuable asset as your agent; his ability to perceive and adapt. On top of that, he’s sharp and encyclopedia-cly knowledgeable. He saved me from myself more than once. He caught things that my lender missed, that selling agents missed (or obscured), and he even caught stuff that the home inspector missed. All of the things he caught could’ve caused major headaches, and they were all avoided thanks to him.

As someone who gets anxious easily about uncertainty and decision making, I’m hyper-worried about if I’m annoying someone with too many questions, focusing on things that likely don’t really matter, wasting their time, and more. Ike never flinched and never once made me feel like I was excessive or unreasonable. I always got solid answers and good advice, calmly delivered, which really helped my confidence in the home buying process in general. He also has infinite patience. There was a period where I wasn’t really excited about anything I was looking at, and was worried I was just wasting his time looking at places and not wanting to write an offer. “Nope,” he says, “that’s the process.” He cares much more about helping you get a home you’ll be happy in than he does about simply closing a deal.

The man also knows how to negotiate on behalf of his clients, and he’s calm under pressure. In the wacko housing market that is Seattle, he kept me from making poor decisions based on fear, and with his guidance, got me a great deal that I didn’t think would ever be possible.

In the past, whenever I watched the Oscars, I used to kind of absentmindedly wonder why all the actors and actresses made a big deal out of thanking their agents. Now I know why. There is so much work that happens behind the scenes to make something like a movie, or a house purchase, be successful, and Isaac handles and navigates it all seamlessly. If owning my own house is my Academy Award, Isaac is the agent that made me successful. I could not be more excited about the prospect of owning my own home – one that I’m happy with, and not just settling for, and I owe it all to him for helping make that happen.

So please, if you are even in the “maybe kinda sorta considering” buying a home phase, please please please call him. Or call me so I can further tell you why you need to go with him instead of anybody else. (I’m serious. I have specific examples, too long to add to this already verbose post, but ones that further show why he is the agent you want in your corner. I would honestly love a chance to sell you on him.)
